King is convicted of disobeying a police order on 3 September while attempting to attend the arraignment of a man accused of assaulting Ralph Abernathy. King is fined $14, but he chooses to spend fourteen days in jail. He is soon released when Police Commissioner Clyde Sellers pays his fine.
