Allie W. Shelby is shot to death in the Hinds County Jailhouse in Jackson, Mississippi after having been arrested, convicted, and sentenced to six months on charges of making indecent gestures towards a white woman. According to authorities, Shelby had resisted police attempts to lead him to jail. A coroner's jury rules the death justifiable homicide.
