Three days after his escape from a Tennessee prison, James Earl Ray is recaptured. Ray had been serving a 99-year term for the assassination of King in 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. Although he confessed to the crime, he later recanted and attempted to be tried on an innocent plea.
