Next entry

Lawyer Clarence Jones wrote this letter to Asa Philip Randolph, International President of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. He praised Mr. Randolph’s recent speech on the upcoming March on Washington to representatives of community organizations in the New York area as “one of the most profound and moving statements I have ever had the privilege to hear on the question of civil rights in America.” Given the white professional leadership of the six sponsoring organizations of the March on Washington, Jones stressed the need of grassroots representation from the greater metropolitan New York area, primarily from the black community, and secondarily from the white community.
