As the drama of the Freedom Rides gripped the country, representatives of SCLC, CORE, SNCC, and other related organizations gathered in Atlanta to form the Freedom Ride Coordinating Committee.  Gordon Carey of CORE, Diane Nash of the Nashville Christian Leadership Council, Wyatt T. Walker of SCLC, and Edward King of SNCC comprised the four permament members of the committee charged with the task of continuing the Freedom Ride movement until descrimination in all areas of interstate travel had been stamped out.
