The King Institute’s Liberation Curriculum (LC) initiative seeks to inform teachers and students about global efforts to achieve social justice, human rights and liberation through nonviolent means, with special emphasis on the modern African American freedom struggle. The LC provides document-based lesson plans, online educational resources, professional development workshops, and an online social justice community for teachers.

While meeting state and national standards, LC’s document-based teaching resources and professional training help teachers engage students in critical thinking and historical analysis, while inspiring them to achieve positive social change. LC educational programs feature not only King’s visionary ideas but also the work of ordinary people who have made extraordinary contributions to liberation movements, transforming the way young people learn about history.
