In their journals, have students write a response to one of the cartoons, addressing the following questions:
What is the author’s intent in creating this cartoon?
What does the cartoon tell us about the values and beliefs of the person that created it?
What does it tell us about the social and political climate of the period in which in was produced?
Briefly explain your response to the document. Is it effective? Why or why not? How might the issues addressed in this document be relevant to our current social and political situation?
